How B1G+A counts it. A possession is any drive with an offensive snap, except drives that end because the half or game ran out. Points per possession counts offensive touchdowns (with the PAT or 2-point try) and field goals. 3-and-out = a possession that ended in a punt without a first down. Rank in parentheses is among Big Ten teams with a published value.
Source: public feeds game summaries (play-by-play drives plus box score) for every final game involving a Big Ten team, Aug 29 – Oct 17. Every game is checked against the box score in the same feed: punts 170/170; punt yds 170/170; punt in20 168/170; punt tb 170/170; net n 170/170; punt vs drives 170/170; punt result drives have punt 170/170; rec yds 170/170; rush yds 164/170; off td 170/170; fg made vs drives 170/170; turnovers 170/170; ints thrown 170/170; fumbles lost 170/170; ret td vs scoring 170/170; score recon 170/170; scoring plays in pbp 170/170 team-games agree (rushing and receiving yardage within 10 yards, punt yardage within 1 yard; all other checks must match exactly). A team's figure is shown only if all of its games pass the checks that stat depends on; otherwise it shows — (hover for the reason).
